The town of Sveti Vlas has approximately 3,000 inhabitants. Located only 5 kilometers from Sunny Beach, 4 kilometers from Elenite and 9 km from Nessebar, it is an extremely good location for rest and relaxation.
Its close location to historical and cultural villages make it a pleasant place for relaxation and rest, and the rapid construction of cozy large and small hotels in Sveti Vlas and the possibility of receiving more tourists led the name of the resort to become one of the fastest growing and pleasant destinations for sea vacation.
The unique geographical location of Sveti Vlas, namely the simultaneous presence of a beach on the Black Sea Stara Planina on the other side and the combination of mountain and sea climate, make it a climatic sea resort, declared as such already in 1963.
The foundations of Sveti Vlas were laid by the Thracian tribe named Larisi in the 2nd century BC. At that time, the locality was called Larissa after the tribe. It was only in the 14th century that the settlement was renamed after the saint Vlasii, who is the patron of animal breeders and traders as well as a healer.
During the Ottoman rule around the 14th – 19th century, the village was listed in the official Ottoman documents as “Kyuchuk Monastery” or “Monastery” because of the 5 monasteries located near the village. Unfortunately, none of them have been preserved until today. The village returned its name to Sveti Vlas during the Unification of Bulgaria in 1886.
